Conducting a narrative writing workshop was an nerve wreecking but an exilatrating task. This workshop helped my fellow classates to discover their own creative ability. The workshop's goals was educate treachers that narrative wriing goes beyond telling stories; it encompasses storytelling, biography, historical facts and events .
Writing a narrative piece serves a a plethora of purposes, such was revealed during the workshop. These purposes are: inspiration and empowerment, entertainment, communication, exploration of human experiences, education and reflection, catharsis, escapism, and the preservation of culture and history.
Themes, plot, characters, point of view, settings, and conflict together were all disccused as crucial components of natrative writing that allows the reader to be engaged and feel as if they are taking apart of the story as well. During the workshop each element was discussed in detail and an activity was done to concretize their understanding with examples.
The Creation of narrative writing element rubric that was included as an assessment and practical examples to assess characterization, setting, plot progression, and overall story logic. One important task raised was to develop a reflective mindset in the students for not only their work but also for others with a given crieteria. It is important to reflect on each stage of the writing process and create opportunities for students to voices challenges, breakthroughs, and the suggestions to their peers to build each other's narratives pieces.
By integrating the writing process and the 6 + 1 traits of writing, teachers can provide learning experiences that fosters creativity but also equips students with essential writing skills.
The narrative writing workshop was filled with information about the purpose, well-defined elements, engaging activities, and relative assessments which have the ability to transform students into storytellers with a relative understanding of the narrative genre.
