Before becoming an educator of writing, I once believed that writing was only for educational and boring puropses. This view chsnged as I attended the classes for the course "Promoting Writing in the Primary Grades". From this course i gained the theoretical, practical and resources to motivate and guide emergent writers as they embark on their writing journey.
Throughout this course, there are several factors that illuminated writing not just as a task but as an avenue of creativity and expression.
One of the first aspects of we were guided by was the writing process and its relationship to the 6+1 traits of writing .
Writing Process: Pre-Writing, Drafting, Revising, Editing and Piblishing.
6+1 Traits of Writing: Idea, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, Conventions + Presentation.
These writing frameworks and guides serves as strong protocols and guidelines in which writiers of the emergent of novice levels are able to use. These framworks can be used for assessemnt or use as a guide to iaaid stud ets in the writing development process. These two concepts are nkw apart of my writing arsenal to help students and others develop their writing abilities.
The variations of literacy genres and their signficance was apart of this course. The knowledge of the different genres were not as detailed as I have acquired now after completing this course. Gaining this knowledge of the literacy genres, will allow me as a teacher of writing to foster a climate sutiable for writing and birth a love for the art. This course has granted me an opportunity to go travel beyond the foundation of writing but to inspire students to be lovers of writing in their own personal style and ge re of choice.
This course also included pratcial examples and real-life situations and techniques with theoretical backing to make writing instruction more interactive and engaging. I have learned to encourage students to own their work, have a sense of achievement, activly engage with their audience and see writing as a path beyond the classroom.
In conclusion "Promoting Writing in the Primary Grades" has changed my perspective on writing. Thjs course guided mein acquiring an manuals that integrates the writing process, the seven traits of writing, and a potfolio of literarcy genres. This course has impacted my theology of teaching writing as an educator, and I am excited to implement the nes techniques and strategies to our new and developing writers.
